EMPTY HOMES MAY BE BREEDING GROUNDS FOR MOSQUITOES
(Reston, VA) Add another problem to the plague of foreclosures:  West Nile Virus.  The National Pest Management Association, headquartered in the Washington, DC, suburb of Reston, is warning that foreclosed homes that have been empty for a lengthy period could be breeding grounds for mosquitoes - the carriers of West Nile Virus. They warned that unattended swimming pools, birdbaths and overflowing gutters are ideal nesting areas for mosquitoes.  The association also notes that unmowed grass is a good breeding ground for ticks and Lyme disease.

RUSSIANS ARE BIG BUYERS IN AUSTRALIA
(Queensland, Australia) A new research report indicates Russians are among the biggest buyers of Australian Gold Coast properties, representing about 9 percent of all buyers for the past three years.  According to the researcher DTZ, buyers from the Russian Federation spent more than $35 million on coastal real estate last year alone.  British buyers continued to be the No. 1 buyers along the coast, representing 27 percent of all foreign buyers.  New Zealanders were second at 22 percent.  Buyers from China, India and the Middle East also are among top buyers.
